Trustee Spreads the Ceramic Word as a STEM Ambassador
Determined to continue to spread the word about the importance and excitement of the world of Ceramics, Trustee David Cannell joined the panel of experts at a STEM ‘Speed Networking’ Event on 21st January at The Marches School in Oswestry.
This brought together students and industry professionals for an engaging and educational experience. The event was organised in collaboration with ‘Materials Matters’, a career service dedicated to the minerals industry, showcasing the diverse career opportunities available in this field.
David, an expert with a long career in the Technical Ceramics sector, delivered an insightful talk about his career journey as well as highlighting the various applications and challenges within the field. This provided students with an insight into the opportunities of the industry.
To illustrate the practical applications of ceramic products, he showcased a range of items, each representing a unique set of problems to be overcome in meeting their design, performance and manufacturing requirements..

These demonstrations provided students with tangible examples of how ceramics are integral to advanced technological solutions.
120 Y9 students took part, in small groups, in a series of quick-fire 8 minute sessions, in what was considered by all to be a great success.
